152587Photo #152587The entire length of Cowley Bridge Road from the Clocktower in Central Exeter to the roundabout at Wrefords Dr. is unsafe for adults and children. That stretch of road is heavily accessed by University of Exeter students as well as by young children and adults, who would make the choice to cycle to Avanti Hall School if there were protected bike lengths for the entire length of the route. High speed traffic of heavy lorries and farm equipment, in addition to the normal car traffic, contribute to unsafe conditions for cycling.Cycleway:

152564Photo #152564This is a commuter and school route. Many school families wish to cycle rather than drive, but fear for their children's safety as this is a busy road and overtaking traffic tend to leave very little space. As there are also many students here, many more would consider cycling from their accommodation to campus if the road was safer.Cycleway:

152562Photo #152562Cycling from the train station to the Avanti School is quite dangerous, especially when there is slow-moving/stationary traffic coming in the other direction, leaving impatient drivers very little room to over take cyclists. A cycle path a) where there is currently road parking or b) along the current Network Rail storage land to the student accommodation would be beneficial for both commuter and leisure cyclists.Cycleway:

151049Photo #151049This area is close to a school. Aside from the school (Avanti Hall School) signage there is no other traffic information to help traffic know. This area also needs to slow traffic and have a safe road crossing point for families to safely cross the road.
To support health body and minds there also needs to be cycle friendly lanes and areas so more children can cycle to school

145639Photo #145639These traffic lights don't have any phase for pedestrians to cross and the road is really wide. There's not enough space for them to wait without blocking the whole pavement too. With the university campus and the supermarket there, it's a busy area. (The drainage is also poor so it often has huge standing puddles which drench pedestrians and make it extra challenging for cyclists.)Track:

145637Photo #145637Pedestrian crossing needed between popular route (Baring Crescent) and supermarket. Students and elderly people try to dash across three lanes of traffic as the nearest crossings are far too far away.Track:
Problem
track
145636Photo #145636The road is too narrow for a bus and a car to pass, so cars often mount the pavement. But the pavement is also too narrow for pedestrians to pass without practically touching shoulders so they have to step into the road if there's a buggy or something. The road must be terrifying for cyclists. It's supposed to be a 20 limit but it isn't enforced and vehicles don't stick to it. Please consider removing the parking zone so that the road could be wide enough for two vehicles and the pavement could be made wider with the extra space. A zebra crossing would help pedestrians to use both pavements. There are student flats and several residential care homes along this road and it's a main route into town so it's heavily used by all types of users.Track:

142264Photo #142264Why does Exeter prioritise motor traffic in signalling over pedestrians/cyclist?

Encouraging more people to drive will not help traffic, but putting in massive delays for pedestrians will drive people (to drive!). Please prioritise Exeter's traffic lighting for pedestrians and env.

142263Photo #142263Also, cars can try to force way around bikes here, as road narrows under bridge. A cycle way would help this.Cycleway:

142262Photo #142262Cars block the lanes and cut up cyclist when using the roundabout. A cycle lane would allow cyclist to more safely access both sides of river and speed up cycling journeys signficantly (encouraging more off road).Cycleway:
Problem
cycleways
142260Photo #142260Drivers can drive down here at very high speeds (performance bikes and cars regularly accelerate as fast as possible away from the roundabout) and accidents have happened on this road.

A cycleway would make this much safer.

140098Photo #140098Lights for cycle lane must be synchronised so that all three crossings are green at once. This is currently a death trap, as cyclists are sent across the junction with two greens, often followed by red on the third section which isn't visible until too late.Cycleway:
